Dear Parents, Teachers, and
Students,
On behalf of the Elkridge Landing Middle
School PTSA, I would like to welcome back all returning families and a big
WELCOME to all new families'. I hope you all have had a fantastic summer and are
looking forward to a great year. I am very excited for the new school year
and to be serving as your PTA president for the 2014-2015 school
year.
For many parents and
students making the transition from Elementary to Middle School can be
overwhelming. This is a crucial time in the students’ life.
The children are transitioning into becoming more independent personally, all
the while their expectations within their academic life are increasing
exponentially. Gone are the days of walking the children into
class/school. Although we as parents cannot be there physically it is
crucial we are there for them. This can be achieved by staying connected. I urge
you to join the ELMS PTSA. Please note that we are a PTSA not a PTA, students
too are encouraged to become members. Studies show students perform better
when their parents are involved. We welcome volunteers, and even if you don’t
have time to volunteer your time, please join. This is a key way to stay
connected to what is happening at the school.Remember, as a PTSA Member you will
be kept abreast of events) happening at Elkridge Landing Middle School.
Your membership will enable you to be part of a team, make connections and
be a role model for your child. The more we all come together the more we can
impact and enrich our student’s lives and the community we live
in.
This year, more than ever, the PTSA needs YOUR
help. The PTSA raises funds to provide a wide range of educational
enrichment programs for our students. Money raised through PTSA
membership, and fundraisers like Yankee Candle sales or Aunt Annie’s
Pretzels. In the past, the PTSA has provided money for school socials, the
PBIS program and the school store. As the new school year begins, we would
once again ask for your support so that we can continue making resource and
learning opportunities available to our children.
For the PTSA to be
effective and truly representative of our school population, everyone’s
participation is essential. Many parents feel that they cannot participate in
the PTSA because they cannot come to meetings, or be in the school during the
day, or may feel simply intimidated. We want EVERYONE to feel that they
are a part of the Elkridge Landing Middle School Community. Whether you
have 30 minutes or a couple of hours, your ideas, your time, your presence, and
your talents are truly needed. We can match your time constraints and interests
to needed tasks. There are endless possibilities in ways you can help here at
Elkridge Landing.
We invite you to join our very active PTSA. PTSA
membership dues are $10.00 per person. Membership flyers are available on
our membership page and will be sent home with your student next week. We
hope that you will consider this investment as a vital one as we hope to reach
100% participation! You can return your membership envelope with cash or a
check to your child’s homeroom or to the front office in the PTSA mailbox.
Checks can be made out to the ELMS PTSA, and anyone can join who
supports Elkridge Landing Middle School, so ask your friends and family!!
We do ask that you completely fill out the membership form with your name and
that of your child to ensure accurate records on our end.
Finally, the
PTSA welcomes you to attend our General membership meetings throughout the year
to raise your concerns and contribute your ideas and talents to better our
school. Our first meeting will be Monday
September 16th at 7:00 PM. All other meeting dates and are

center (library), and are open to everyone!
